Dymock Poets Display

October, 2006

On Friday, 6 October, Sean Street formally opened a new study display devoted to the Dymock poets, at the Parish Church of St Mary's, Dymock, Gloucestershire. At a packed event, which also featured readings and music related to the poets and their work, Sean read his new poem, "Sound is a Memory", a poetic 'answer' to Edward Thomas's poem, "The Sun Used to Shine", relating to the walks taken by Thomas and Robert Frost through the lanes around Dymock in the shadow of the First World War. In doing so, Sean paid tribute to those who had developed the new display, which will further encourage the study of, and research into this important chapter of the UK's literary history. Sean is the author of The Dymock Poets (Seren), the definitive book on this group of Georgian poets. (See, Publications, Prose)
